Sleep

Lions, and other cats, can sleep for up to 20 hours a day. However, that doesn't mean that every lion sleeps for 20 hours every day. One day they might spend 2 hours playing and 5 hours hunting, and sleep the rest, for example. Or the females might sleep while the males patrol the territory and renew the scent-marks, or the males might sleep while the females hunt (though contrary to popular belief, male lions DO hunt - they join the females now and then, particularly when hunting large prey such as buffalo, and males who have left their birth pride but not yet taken over one of their own have no choice but to hunt for themselves).

Sleeping for long periods like this is not 'laziness', it is an efficient use of energy. If you only eat once a week (as with most predators, the majority of hunts do not result in a kill - lions have to try several times before they get a meal), and must expend a lot of energy catching that meal, it makes sense to conserve energy at other times.
