Ingredients of Narasimha Rasayanam
Madhura Dravya (sweetening substance)
- Kahanda sharkara/sugar candy (Saccharum officinarum)
- Madhu (Honey)
Kashaya Dravya (materials for decoction) :
- Gayatri/Khadira (Acacia catechu)
- Shikhi/Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica)
- Shimshipa (Dalbergia sissoo)
- Asana (Pterocarpus marsupium)
- Shiva (Terminalia chebula)
- Vella/Vidanga (Embelia ribes)
- Akshaka (Terminalia bellerica)
- Arushkara/Bhallataka (Semecarpus anacardium)
Drava Dravyas (liquid materials)
- Ksheera (cows milk)
- Bhringaraja niryasa (Eclipta prostrata)
- Triphala Kashaya
- Ghruta (cows ghee)
Other ingredients
- Ayas (iron)
- Haiyangaveena (butter)
- Preparation of Narasimha Rasayanam
Gayathri, Shikhi, shimshapa, asana, shiva, vella, akasha and arushkara are taken in equal quantity and made a paste by adding water. Then the paste is mixed with 18 parts of water in an iron vessel and placed in sunlight for three days. During this period it should be continuously stirred with an iron spoon.
After three days it should be heated in the mild fire till the quantity of water reduces to 1/4 to make the decoction. Then the decoction is filtered and kept.
Then the decoction is added with an equal quantity of milk and two parts of bhringaraja rasa and three parts of Triphala kashaya along with four parts of haiyangveena (butter). This mixture is cooked well in an iron pan (Krishna louha) till it attains ghruta paka.
Once the preparation is done, one can add sugar candy and honey or can be taken when Narasimha Rasayanam is consumed.
