Viprachitti was the husband of Prahlad's aunt Holika, also known as Simhika. Prahlad's father's (Hiranyakashipu) sister, was married to the King of Kamrup, Viprachitti. Therefore, Viprachitti was Prahlad's uncle.
After losing Holika, Viprachitti fumed with anger. And in a fit of rage, he attempted to kill Prahlad.
Viprachitti used his Mayavi Shakti to make Prahlad unconscious. Then he lifted him in his arms and threw him into the ocean. He was confident that the underwater beings would eat Prahlad alive.
Viprachitti failed in his attempt to kill Prahlad. The little boy was saved once again by Lord Vishnu, who threw his lotus into the ocean. And the lotus bloomed in a such a manner that it became a comforting couch for Prahlad, who lay peacefully on the sea bed. Subsequently, the God of the seas appeared before him after seeing Vishnu's lotus. He realised that the child was not an ordinary boy. Eventually, Goddess Lakshmi, who took birth from the ocean during Samudra Manthan, appealed to her father, the God of the Seas to return Prahlad to his mother, Kayadhu.
